Why MeduMut

Apps teach you to order coffee. Your first month in Portugal asks for much more.

“Tire uma senha.”

The tax office queue

Getting your tax number means taking a ticket, waiting, and answering a clerk who speaks fast. Most of life in Portugal starts here.

“Pedimos dois meses de caução.”

The lease and the landlord

Deposits, guarantors, a broken water heater. These conversations decide where and how you live.

“Falta um documento.”

The residency appointment

One of the most important conversations of your move, often in Portuguese only. You should understand every word.

Most popular apps and many tutors teach Brazilian Portuguese. In Lisbon or Porto, the sounds, words and manners are different. MeduMut teaches only the Portuguese spoken in Portugal.

How it works

Learn it, practice it, then do it for real.

Lessons built on real situations

Short lessons with native audio. You learn the phrases to say and, just as important, the replies you'll hear.

AI practice between sessions

Role-play the clerk, the pharmacist or the landlord as often as you like, at your own pace.

Live native coaches

Coaches from Portugal, trained in our method, run each session and throw in the surprises real life will.

A real task to finish

Every module ends with something done for real: the tax number, the bank account, the doctor's visit.

The name

Word of the mother.

meduword, speech mutmother

In ancient Egyptian, one of the oldest written languages, medu means word and mut means mother. Together: the word of the mother, or the mother tongue.

That's the goal for every learner: to speak the language of their new home the way people born there do.
